The quest to get the Senate Presidency seat has been intensified has Senator elected on the Platforms of the ruling party and even those of the People Democratic Party have indicated their keen interest to succeed the outgoing ruling party, Bukola Saraki.
The seat contended for presently included the Senate Presidency, Deputy Senate President, Speaker of House of Representatives and the Deputy Speaker of the house.
With the ruling party have the large chunk of the seat, with 65 seats, while the opposition has 35 seats, the All Progressive Congress (APC) is better positioned to win the seat, all things being equal.
According to reports, no less than 12 senators have indicated interest to lead the 9th assembly of the Nigerian Senate.
Most of these senators have been going on consultation with their colleagues and the leadership of the party to ensure that their ambitions come to fruition.
Some candidates for these exhorted positions have also reached out to the new senators-elect, who are in the majority to get their supports.

Ali Ndume
Ali Ndume, a four-times senator representing Borno South Senatorial District has made his ambition to lead the upper chamber known to all. He, in fact, ahs opposed the leadership of his party intention to install Lawan Ahmed as the Senator President. According to him, he will take a stand on the party’s decision after consultation with leaders of the party in the North-East and his colleagues who are supporting his aspiration.
Lawal Ahmed
Lawan Ahmed is a three-times senator representing Yobe North Senatorial District. He has been favored by the leadership of the APC to be the next Senate president. He is however faced with opposition from the inner caucus of the party.
Dino Maleye
Dino Maleye is a two-time senator of the People’s Democratic Party who is looking to benefit from the division that might arise from APC to emerge as the Senate president. He represents the people of Kogi South.
Eke Ekweremadu
Eke Ekweremadu is gunning for his fifth time as the senator of Nigeria. After emerging as the Senate’s deputy president, he is looking forward to succeeding his present boss, Bukola Saraki with the power of the opposition and his other loyalist in the ruling party.
Mohammed Danjuma Goje
Goje is an APC senator who has also indicated interest in the Senate presidency. He represents Gombe Central Senatorial District.
Abdullahi Adamu
Adamu is also a member of the APC who represent the Nasarawa West. His interest is also keen.
KALU ORJI UZOR:
Kalu is an APC Senator Presenting Abia North. He will be playing the card that the South East region should have a shot at the seat, as the seat has been zoned to them. But as a first-timer in the chamber, he might fail in his attempt.
The list of contenders for the Deputy Senate President include Ovie Omo-Agege (Delta), Deputy Senate Whip Francis Alimekhena (Edo) and Kabiru Gaya (Kano)
It is also important to note that a huge contested has started for those slated to lead the lower chamber of the National Assembly. While numerous candidates have indicated interest for the role. it should be noted that the All, which has the higher numbers of representatives have selected Femi Gbajabiamila, representing Surulare Federal Constituency.
Those vying for the seat of the Speaker of the House of Assembly includes Femi Gbajabiamila (Lagos), Mohammed Tahir Monguno (Borno), Ahmed Idris Wase (Plateau), Abdulrazak Namdas (Adamawa), Babangida Ibrahim (Katsina).
Those vying for the seat of the deputy speaker include Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila (Kano), Abubakar Lado Suleja (Niger), to name a few.
