Storyteller of the week: Ramsey Nouah

Ramsay Tokunbo Nouah is one of Nigeria’s versatile actor, director and film producers. He is a passionate storyteller. He has been able to remain relevant even after decades of venturing into the Nigerian Movie Industry, transcending the eras of Nollywood.

Born to a Nigerian mother of Ondo descent and an Israeli Father, Ramsay Nouah was born on the 19th of December, 1070. He grew up in Surulare area of Lagos State.

Ramsay Nouah attended the University of Lagos, where he obtained a Diploma in Mass Communication, after which he pursued a career in acting.

He started his career in acting in 1993. He has featured in over 50 Movies. Nouah’s acting career kicked off when he starred in the Nigerian TV soap opera Fortunes. He featured as the character Jeff after his friend admonished him to go for the audition for the production.

Nouah is considered to be one of the most sought-after actors in Nigeria. In 2010 Nouah won the African Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance in The Figurine. He was also nominated, in 2017, for the African Movie Academy Award for”Best Actor in a Leading Role” in the movie “76”

He is an African household name that won’t be forgotten for his immense contribution to the African entertainment industry at large. In 2009, he portrayed a socially awkward fresh graduate in The Figurine (2009).

His role in the movie produced and directed by Kunle Afolayan brought the best out of him, more than we have seen before. He is often regarded as one of Africa’s greatest actor of all time.

He won the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role in 2010 for his performance in the movie “The Figurine”. He made his directorial debut with the film “Living in Bondage: Breaking Free” in 2019 and also went onto direct Nollywood classic Rattle Snake: The Ahanna Story which is a remake of Rattlesnake (1995).

Nouah is married to Emelia Philips-Nouah. The couple has two sons and a daughter, named Quincy, Camil Nouah, and Desiree Nouah.
