Read Some Popular Reactions To Nigeria’s Presidential Election

The Presidential elections have come and gone, however, the impact on the Nigerian Nation will continue would continue to resonant in history. One thing that would also resonate in history are the words that accompanied the outcome of the election..

Here are some of the popular quotes that trailed the presidential election.

“I am going to warn anybody who thinks he has enough influence in his locality to lead a body of thugs to snatch boxes or to disturb the voting system, he would do it at the expense of his own life.” President Muhammadu Buhari

I thank the millions of Nigerians who voted to re-elect me as your president for the next four years. I am deeply humbled and profoundly grateful to you for judging me worthy of continuing to serve you and for your peaceful conduct.” President Muhammadu Buhari

“If I had lost in a free and fair election, I would have called the victor within seconds of my being aware of his victory to offer not just my congratulations, but my services to help unite Nigeria by being a bridge between the North and the South.” Atiku Abubakar. (Presidential Candidate of the PDP)

“I hereby reject the result of the February 23, 2019 sham election and will be challenging it in court.” Atiku Abubakar.

I would have been surprised if Atiku had won. Atiku’s emergence has negative implications. He will have to defend many negative comments by Obasanjo. He is under investigation by the United States Government. He never came out to deny the representation that he will enrich his friends. Atiku was going to sell the NNPC to his friends.” Femi Falana (Human Right Lawyer).

“I wish to congratulate President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR on his re-election to lead Nigeria in the next four years. I have observed that, the electioneering campaign was very strenuous and the contest very keen. That despite the turbulent terrain of politics, the President submitted and subjected himself to this process. Indeed is a clear testimony that he believes in the democratic process and ideals.” General Ibrahim Badamosi Babagida. (Former Military President of Nigeria)

You will recall that on the Election Day, I said that the process was clumsy and we also had major problem of card readers, which made it difficult for most people to vote. When over 400,000 card readers got burnt at INEC office in Awka, it became clear that something was wrong somewhere. INEC could not save the situation and they did not allow people to vote manually. – Peter Obi. (Vice Presidential Candidate of the PDP)

As at the last count over 50 Nigerians have lost their lives last Saturday. Most of them from the South South region where a division of the army with their commanders were deployed to attack our people on the Election Day. Prince Uche Secondus (National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party PDP)
