Nigeria Police Call On The Army To Explain The Killing Of Its Men, Twitter Users React

The Nigerian Police Force has called on the Nigerian Army on Twitter to explain the situation that led to the killing of three of its undercover cops by men of the Nigerian Army in Taraba State.

The Army officers allegedly killed three policemen and wounded four others, who were conveying a suspected kidnap kingpin known as Alhaji Hamisu.

The Nigerian Army in its explanation said its troops fired at the undercover police because they mistook them for kidnappers.

The Army claimed that it was not aware that an undercover operation was being carried out by the police in the area.

The Police in a statement made available on its Twiter handle faulted the claim by the Nigerian Army that unfortunate situation was a case of mistaken identity.

The police said its officers were shot at several times by the soldiers “despite sufficient proof that they [were] police personnel on legitimate duty”.

In its statement, the police wondered about the whereabouts of the suspect the Army reported ‘rescued’ from its men.

To get answers to its question, the Nigerian Police vie its Twitter initiated the hashtag #ProvideAnswersNigeriaArmy, which is currently trending.
