Mrs. Rose Bulus, a 25 years old lady has dragged her father, Josiah, to a Shari’a Court sitting in Magajin Gari, Kaduna State, for insisting on not giving her out in marriage to her lover.
Mrs. Bulus, who announced that she has converted to Islam, stated that she did so to marry the person she is in love with, who is a Muslim.
“I want the court to compel my father to allow me to marry the man I love and if he refuses, the court should do the needful’’, she prayed.
The defendant, who denied any knowledge of his daughter’s relation to her lover, said he was still surprised that he is in court on the matter.
Josiah said, “The supposed suitor has never visited me to ask for the hand of my daughter hand in marriage,” he said.
The Judge, Malam Dahiru Lawal after listening to both parties said, “Even though marriage is a union between a man and a woman, parent’s consent is equally needed before the union takes place”.
The judge, while adjourning the matter until March 4 for further hearing, summoned the suitor parent for the next hearing.
