See What These Nigerian Teenagers Are Doing To End Child Marriage

Child marriage is one of the biggest problem confronting the Nigerian society. With 44% of Nigerian girl children are married out before the age of 18, the problem of child marriage has costs Nigeria USD7.6 billion in lost earnings and productivity every year.

In a bid to change the narrative, three teenage girls, Kudirat Abiola 16, Susan Ubogu, 17, and Temitayo Asuni, 16, have come up with an initiative to put an end to this problem.

The trio met in 2016, and in 2018, they created a petition, which thousands of Nigerians have signed to. Their intention is to give voice to the voiceless girls who are forced into marriages they are not ready for.

In their interview with BBC Africa, their intention is to ensure that the constitution is rectified to curb child marriage.
