Nigerian Video director and producer, Akin Alabi, is telling us the story of the possibility of upcycling waste metal into art in his recent documentary titled, “Africa’s Iron King: A Waste to Wealth Documentary”.

The documentary brought to fore the work of metal sculptor, Dotun Popoola, a synergetic metal sculptor is using his art to recycle junks into works of art.

Popoola started his art in 2015 after returning to Nigeria from the United State after learning how to weld with a mig welder and a plasma cutter.

Popoola, who is also a painter, studied art from Auch Polytechnic and Obafemi Awolowo University. 

He repurposes metal to create art especially animals that speak to the realities in the country.

In the documentary, Dotun, an On-Air Personality, and VJ revealed how a friend has contracted Dotun to make a sculpture of him.
