Chimamanda Adichie Honoured With with Degree of Doctor At Georgetown College

Acclaimed writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has become the first African delivered the Class Day speech to the 2019 graduating members of the Yale College at New Haven, Connecticut.

She also received an honorary degree for the 2019 Georgetown College Commencement ceremonies this weekend, on May 18.

She also holds the same degree from Johns Hopkins, Haverford College, the University of Edinburgh, and Amherst College.

An alumna of Yale herself, Adichie received her master of arts in African studies from the school in 2008. “I remember the many clever undergrads I met while at Yale and it’s an honor to know that a class of similarly clever students chose me to speak to them.” Adichie said in an earlier statement.

“We are so proud to have Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie join us for the 2019 College Commencement. Her fiction and non-fiction works have spoken to countless people about the value, the power, and the meaningfulness of differences. In doing so, she has taught us all about the full dimensions of humanity.” Georgetown College Dean, Chris Celenza said.

Just a week Ago, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie received an honorary doctorate from American University’s College of Arts & Sciences and delivered the commencement address for the Spring 2019 graduates on May 11 in Bender Arena.
