Vogue Challenge has taken over social media, with Instagram, Twitter and Tiktok users creating astonishing Vogue front cover featuring their own images.
The trending discussion on racism instigated this challenge. The disparity in pay and opportunity handed down to white employee of the media company had made the outfit think about looking inwards.
Major media companies have started to take a public stance to address toxic workplace culture towards their employees of color and social media has been a vital vehicle for these conversations.
In the past few days, the Vogue Challenge became a trend for BIPOC creators to showcase their talents. By participating in the trend, Twitter users took the Vogue logo and recreated their own Vogue cover, an opportunity that has been historically and intentionally excluded from people of colour.
In response to Vogue dedicating its July 2020 issue to the millions of key workers across the UK, social media users are taking turns themselves to appear as cover stars.
July’s three cover stars were trained driver Narguis Horsford, NHS midwife Rachel Millar, and supermarket assistant Anisa Omar.
