There have been renewed calls for the disbanding of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, (a special squad in the Nigeria Police Force) on social media a man identified as Kolade Johnson was killed by a stray bullet by one of the operatives of the squad.
The incident which happened on Sunday in Mangoro, an area close to the international airport. Ikeja, on Sunday at approximately 4:30 p.m, raised anger on social media.
Premium Times reports that late Johnson was shot while seeing a live football match between Liverpool and Tottenham at approximately 4:30 p.m.
A friend of the deceased, while speaking to journalist said the officers who came in a yellow danfo bus wanted to arrest a popular man identified as Ismail Folorunsho because of his dreadlocks fearing he might be a criminal but people quickly gathered to intervene when the incident happened.
Ismail Folorunsho has returned to the street, people have seen him around tonight, that must have been because they did not find anything on him and they should not have harassed him at all because of his dreadlocks.
The convener of the #EndSARS campaign, Segun Awosanya, in his reaction, vowed to find an end to this incessant occurrence.
Now that the recalcitrant Anti Cultism acting as Criminal Fashion @PoliceNG have started killing our youth in the bid to intimidate, abduct and rob them of money, we will ensure this is the last time that unit operates. The end has come. #EndSACS #EndSAKS #EndSARS #ReformPoliceNG https://t.co/N2fOoGGUIt

This is Kolade Johnson. A youth like you and me. His life was ended yesterday by the rouge operatives, SARS.
His crime? Being a Nigerian. The government failed him. Nigeria failed him. Shall we wait for the rot to continue? No. Time to act is NOW.#EndSARS #ENDPOLICEBRUTALITY pic.twitter.com/3eRFGitFcT

SARs shot an innocent citizen dead yesterday, men of the @PoliceNG who are paid to protect the citizens are the ones oppressing and killing them. Who knows who their next victim will be, add your voice now ✊#ENDSARS #EndSACS #EndSAKS #ENDPOLICEBRUTALITY #ReformPoliceNG pic.twitter.com/meiSxXbgPW

Since members of the SARS @PoliceNG love shooting without asking questions, can @MBuhari order that the unit be absorbed by @HQNigerianArmy retrained & deployed to Bornu where their services are needed the most? #EndSARS #EndPolicebrutality pic.twitter.com/oWiGjzuOD6

The last memo I got was that the Nigerian police, SARS and the rest of em are supposed to be protecting and serving us. Are we now going to be afraid of armed robbers, the terrorists and the police as well? #EndSARS

In Nigeria @PoliceNG being posted to SARS is often regarded as a “juicy” posting and is preceded by intense lobbying by potential officers. Officers sometimes pay superior officers responsible for transfers as much as N300,000 to influence their posting to SARS. #EndSARS

Last year I was for reform SARS but now it's clear that those guys are irredeemable. They cannot be reformed, they are incurable, a terminal illness. 90% of them are mentally ill and unfit for the force#ENDSARS #EndPolicebrutality

Maybe we all need the right to bear arms in this country….
If it's not a driver getting bloodied by some policeman cos of N100 naira, it will be the life of an innocent youth cut short by SARS!!!— Kate Henshaw (@HenshawKate) April 1, 2019
Many attempts to reform SARS, including the one ordered by @ProfOsinbajo in August last year have been ineffective. Nigerians are still brutalized by SARS. Restructuring SARS is not enough unless the government takes concrete steps to protect Nigerians.@PoliceNG #EndSARS
