Nigeria’s Oluwaseun Ayodeji Osowobi, founder of Stand To End Rape Initiative has been awarded winner of the Commonwealth Young Person of the Year at Marlborough House, the Commonwealth Secretariat’s London headquarters.
Osowobi who won the grand prize of $5000, is the regional winner for Africa & Europe for Excellence in Development Work in SDG5: Gender Equality.
Osowobi who was selected out of 16 finalists and four regional winners, is expected to use the money she won to expand the activities of her initiative.
More than 500 people from across the Commonwealth were nominated for the award.
Osowobi came up with the Stand to End Rape Initiative (STER) to help people across gender survive the trauma of rape and other gender-based violence.
Osowobi, who was a rape victim too, received the award which was presented by Patricia Scotland.
