With the release of the Sex for grade documentary by BBC Africa in 2019, a lot of issues have been taken centre stage concerning sexual harassment in Nigeria’s institution of higher learning.
Provoked by this explosive investigative documentary, Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege and Senate Leader, Abdullahi Yahaya, sponsored a bill titled “A Bill for an Act to Prevent, Prohibit and Redress Sexual Harassment of Students in Tertiary Educational Institutions and for other matters connected therewith 2019”.
The bill seeks to punish convicted sexual predators with a minimum jail term of 5 years, and it could go up to 14 years, with no option of fine.
Kiki Mordi, OAP and journalist who, in collaboration with BBC told the story of sexual harassment in the Higher institutions in Nigeria and Ghana, in this video, explained the Sex for Marks bill, a legislation proposed by the Nigerian Senate to criminalise sexual harassment in Nigerian universities.
She also shed light on the alleged effort by the ASUU to truncate the passing of this bill.
