BBC Africa Eye documentary “Sweet Sweet Codeine” Get Emmys Nomination

A BBC Pidgin and BBC Africa Eye documentary “Sweet Sweet Codeine” has been nominated for the first International Emmys nomination for the BBC World Service and Nigeria.

The documentary by BBC Nigeria service, which examined the problem of codeine addiction in Nigeria, was nominated for the ‘News and Current Affair’ category.

According to the Nigerians senate, 3 million bottles of codeine syrup are drunk every day in just two states, Kano and Jigawa.

The Documentary carried out by an award-winning Nigerian investigative journalist, Ruona J. Meyer, starred up Nigerians to ask questions, as it uncovered the horrors of the opioid crisis that Nigeria was unwittingly facing, as well as the corrupt forces behind it.
