Living as an intersex as a Nigerian can be tough. This is the case of Iyabo Adade turned James Johnson.
He grew up having two sex organs but discovered that he was far from been a female after years playing for his female team at age 19.
In his discussion with BBC Africa, Johnson tells his tale of confusion, frustration, discrimination, failed dreams, disappointment as he made the decision to drop his female side and embrace is male identity.
James spoke about the awkward interactions he had with his teammate and how he was embarrassed once on the pitch by an opponent player, who pulled down his short to confirm if he is truly a female.
James Johnson was born intersex and used to play football for Nigeria's national women's team.
At around 19, he began playing for men's teams in Nigeria's top division but tells us that he faced discrimination at all levels of the game.
