Five Successful Nigerians Without University Education

There have been claims that success without education, specifically university education is far-fetched. For this reason, Nigerian believe that people who, at least have university degrees, as candidates of success. But is this entirely true?

A lot of people desired to be counted among people with university certificates, but the situations around them have always caused this dream to go unfulfilled.

This is the case of many Nigerian successful people. These folks build a name and reputation for themselves without having to attend a university of any higher institution. These successful people without higher education have been testimonies that education is not the only defining means to attain fulfillment and success.

In this post, we will tell the story of people with who defied the odd and popular belief that without education success cannot be attained.

Nike Okundaye

Chief Nike Okundaye is an artist, batik, Adire textile designer and art collector.

Born in Oshogbo in Ogidi, Kogi State in 1951, Nike was brought up amidst the traditional weaving and dying as practiced in her home town. Her home town was specifically known for cloth weaving, adire making, indigo dying and leathe.

Not deterred by her inability to get a University education, Nike is today known for her contribution to the aspect of arts in the country.

Being the founder of four art centers, including Nike Art Gallary in Lagos, Nike had her first solo exhibition at the Goethe Institute, Lagos in 1968.

Award with an honorary doctorate in fine arts, Rhodes University, United States, Nike had had the opportunity to lecture in institutions in the America and Europe. She has offered free training to over 3000 young Nigeria so far.

Innocent Chukwuma

Innocent Chukwuma is a Nigerian businessman and inventor born in Anambra State in 1961. He established Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing after training as a spare part trader.

Without tertiary education, Innocent put together the first indigenous automobile manufacturing company in Nigeria. He, also, has other business interests.

For his contribution in the manufacturing sector of the country, he was appointed Deputy Chairman, Board of Trustees National Coalition for Jonathan/Sambo Presidency, a group set up to promote the election of the former Nigerian president, Goodluck Jonathan.

Rasaq Okoya

 

Rasaq Okoya is Nigeria’s self-made business tycoon, foremost industrialist, owner, and founder of Eleganza group of companies, which has a market spanning Western Africa.

Okoya initially gathered his business experience working for his father’s tailoring business before he ventured into importation with the loan he got from his mother, in addition to his savings.

After years of importing goods from Asia and Europe, Okoya started his manufacturing film, which deals in a wide range of household goods and utensils including cutlery, collieries, food warmers, ice chest, electric fan, cosmetics and ballpoint pen.

The company of the same man without a university education, now directly employs over five thousand Nigerians and non-Nigerians including those working in his RAO Property Investment Company.

Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah

Patrick Ubah is an Anambra State-born businessman and politician. Born in the year 1971, Ubah dropped out of Premier academy, Lugbe, Abuja to learn a trade at a young age because of his parents’ inability to sponsor his education.

He is the founder of Capital Oil and Gas Limited, Authority Newspaper a Nigerian daily newspaper and also the owner of Ifeanyi Ubah F.C.,

He recently got elected as the senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District on the platform Young Progressive Party (YPP), after his failed attempt at the governorship seat in 2014.

Mercy Johnson

Mercy Johnson is a Nigerian Award-winning actor, born in Lagos to parents who are from Kogi State on August 28, 1984.

Mercy Johnson, who is now married got her first acting gig immediately after her secondary school.
